FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHEN CAN I SUBMIT MY FILM?

The Dumbo Film Festival is structured in preselection competitions throughout the year. During such competitions, the annual official selections are chosen, out of a preselection process. Your entry must be preselected and then compete to be the annual official selection. There are no screenings during the preselections.
The official selections will be screened at the final event, and have the chance to win two different awards (Best in Category Award and GRAND BRIDGE AWARD).
You can only submit your film once a year, choosing a preselection competition and carefully checking the submission deadlines available on FilmFreeway. The winners of the preselection contests (annual official selections) are announced on this website. at the end of every competition (on the “event dates” you find on FilmFreeway).

CAN I SUBMIT MY FILM IF IT HAS BEEN, OR WILL BE, AVAILABLE BEFORE THE DFF?

We will reject any project that was broadcast on tv networks or available online before the DFF annual event date.

DOES MY FILM HAVE TO BE A PREMIERE?

Premiere status is not mandatory, even if a New York Premiere status is suggested.

CAN I SUBMIT MORE ENTRIES?

You can submit more than one project, provided that each submission must be done separately.

WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF MY FILM WAS SELECTED?

You will receive an email on our “notification date” (see on FilmFreeway) if you are either preselected or rejected during the first phase.
You will receive a notification during the competition “event dates” (see on FilmFreeway) if you are officially selected to be screened.
Only if you are an official selection you will receive further notification about it. In case you are not, you will not be further notified.

The “Semi-finalist” status on FilmFreeway means that your film has passed the first preselection phase. Only the winners of the preselection competition (marked by the “FINALIST” status on FilmFreeway) will have their screening opportunity as annual official selections at the final event of the Dumbo Film Festival.

STEPS:
1. Entry: submitted and in consideration
2. Preselection (“semi-finalist” status on FilmFreeway): interesting but not yet screening
3. Official selection (“finalist” status on FilmFreeway): appearing on website and screening in DUMBO
4. Winner: collecting trophy during final live event

Only the official selections will appear on this website, as they make up the lineup which will be screened in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF MY FILM WON THE PRESELECTION COMPETITION?

Only the official selections will be notified about their winning the preselection competition.
